Paint Night & Pompeii

The public school has vacation this week so our library had special events going on throughout the week.  Thursdsy they were holding a special "Paint & Sip" evening for kids 8 years old and older.  But they only had 12 spots available.  When I called the ask of they had 5 more spots they said they had exactly 5 more spots open!
When the kids heard they were going to be able to go they were SO excited.  They've been very intrigued as of late watching Bob Ross videos on Youtube.  They just watched him for the first time two weeks ago, so for an opportunity to paint on canvas at a painting class, they were very excited.

It was interesting to watch them paint.  They didn't have to make theirs identical to the teachers, she basically told them to be creative and she would show them the basic idea to make a painting like her but you could choose different colors, different animals, flowers, etc.
They all did a good job. It took them about 2 hours to finish the paintings.  About half way through Daddy showed up and just stood in the doorway until one of the kids spotted him.  No one knew he was coming from work so it was a big surprise.
Everyone did such a nice job.  I'm so happy that we got to go to the event.  It was free and so much fun for the kids.
Jada didn't finish hers completely because she couldn't decide what else she wanted to do.  Plus, she seemed to take more time.on each thing than the younger kids.
I was very proud of the good job they all did.  Daniel and Evan left a few minutes early with daddy, so I didn't get them all in a picture together.  They also missed the entire group picture... but the girls held their paintings in the picture for them.

It seems as though art was a theme this week.  We also went to a candy building day at the library. The kids did some art sculptures out of different candies.  They had a new challenge every 1/2 hour or so, and they built cars, airplanes, necklaces, etc.

Also Friday in school we read the 6th chapter in our book about Pompeii.  We're in the chapter where they have finally uncovered much of the lost city and they found a lot of art in people's houses.  Most of the art was big, beautiful Mosaics hanging in homes...
So we decided it sounded fun to try our hand at some Mosaic art.  We just cut up a bunch of colored paper into small squares and made pictures with them.
The boys lost interest fairly quickly, as it really was a lot to glue on to a full sized paper... so they asked if they we could save the squares and finish another time.
Friday evening our friends, the Peterman's, came to visit.  We had dinner together and visited until after 10pm.  This morning was an early morning because we had a special prayer eating scheduled at church.

The meeting was a great blessing.  Just about everyone showed up to pray and it was a good time with our church family.
On our way back home from the meeting all the girls and I stopped into a small little Thrift store that's tucked away in the basement of a church and not open that often... I found a few good deals for the boys.
When Evan got home this evening from Ice fishing I let him try the rollerblades in the house so he could learn how to use them...Within an hour of trying and trying he finally got really good!  I was proud of him and he was so thankful. He kept thanking me for buying them :)  I also found some nice shirts in excellent condition for 50cents each.  I love good finds at Thrift stores!!
